The day trip to Chefchaouen from Fez is an ideal escape from the busy Fez to enjoy most of the day exploring the city that attracted the Phoeniciens, the Portuguese, the Spanish, the Jews, the Arabs and the Hippies in the 70th. Its old fortified town is ideal for wondering around the Souk stores selling small souvenirs and handicrafts.
The day trip to Chefchaouen from Fez will take us through arid plain with humpy hills near Chichaoua. Historically, Chefchaouen was first founded by the Carthaginian Hanno in the 5th century who constructed a small trading port and was known later in the 11th centuChefchaouen harbourry with the name of Sidi Megdoul. The name was adopted by the Portuguese in the 16th century to be turned into Mogador which means fortress or wall in Berber.
